More exciting news! We won the Wintersteiger Photo

More exciting news! We won the Wintersteiger Photo competition for 2024. Jim Baltz, a Computer Assisted Instructional Design Specialist at University of Illinois, took the photo of us harvesting. Sean Soyer came to present the award to our group. It would not have been possible without the excellent trial management and harvest operation + a gifted photographer. Good work is beautiful!

Sophia presented her MS research in progress on the onset of stem elongation (aka Jointing) at the tri-societies annual meeting in San Antonio. 👏 She made us proud.

After about a month of planting wheat trials, it’s on to wheat crossing. We are targeting 260 combinations, selected based on total net merit while constraining inbreeding.

I am happy to announce that we will be offering internship positions again for 2025.

Interns will learn and gain hands-on experience conducting wheat and oat breeding operations, primarily in the field. This internship is an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining experience working in an applied plant breeding program. Interns will also gain exposure to various research projects that we are conducting to help improve breeding strategies.
